Congratulations to our new SABA-GA Board of Directors


After a very close election, we are proud to announce that the following four SABA-GA Members have been elected to serve on the SABA-GA Board of Directors for three years:

ELECTIONS MEETING


SABA-GA has four vacancies for board member positions starting in 2018. If you are interested in nominating someone or running, please fill out the nomination form. Details on eligibility and nominating are listed on the form. Forms are due no later than Thursday, January 11.

The election meeting will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the offices of Kilpatrick, Townsend & Stockton, located at  1100 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30309. The meeting will begin at 6pm. All members are welcome to attend.

SABA-GA will be forming an advisory committee comprised of previous board members who can get involved who can be a voice with regards to our local chapter as well as have input in the 2019 National Convention. SABA-GA member, Sachin Vargheese, is a candidate for the Georgia House District 89 seat. After Tuesday's election, there will be a runoff election on December 5.

SABA-GA Outing to the Braves Game on September 7

Last chance to reserve tickets to the game on Thursday, September 7.  Join SABA for a great opportunity to enjoy the end of summer and socialize with SABA members. SABA-GA Annual Charity Dinner benefiting Raksha, Wednesday May 17, 2017, 6:30-10:00 pm

Advancing Justice Legal Fellowship
Asian Americans Advancing Justice is proud to announce its inaugural Advancing Justice Legal Fellowship. The fellowship is geared toward a 2017 law school graduate or an outgoing judicial law clerk who wants to work in the public interest arena. This fellowship is funded by GAPABA. In-House Panel Discussion on Thursday, January 19, 2017 (6:00 PM)

Save the date for an evening with in-house counsel! SABA-GA in conjunction with KPPB Law is hosting an in-house counsel panel discussion on January 19, 2017 at 6:00pm. The event will take place Kilpatrick, Townsend, & Stockton in midtown. We have various speakers from major companies in Atlanta lined up for an exciting discussion. The topics will center around the relationship between in-house counsel and outside counsel,  insight on their day-to-day responsibilities and what it takes to succeed as counsel.  CLE credit will be available for this event.  Please RSVP at info@kppblaw.com.

SABA-GA is accepting nominations for its 2017 Board Members to fill 4 board position openings. We are excited to bring on new board members with new ideas on our to further the causes of SABA-GA. The upcoming elections meeting will take place at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 at Morris Manning Martin (1600 Atlanta Financial Center, 3343 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30326).

We hope all of you will consider either running or nominating someone to be a board member.  It is perfectly acceptable to nominate oneself, so don't wait or hope someone recognizes your talent.  Step forward and help steward SABA-GA in the new year.  Nomination forms are here, and must be completed and returned to our Elections Officer Zain Kapadia (zain@kapadialawfirm.com) by end of the day Friday, January 13, 2017.  You can also email Zain for more information or if you have any questions.

South Asian Bar Association Annual Holiday Party on Thursday, December 8, 2016 (6:30 PM)

SABA-GA will be hosting its Annual Holiday Party on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 6:30 PM at the Club Room at Ansley Terrace (175 15th Street NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30309). This will be an excellent opportunity for all current SABA-GA Members to renew their membership for 2017. Those attorneys wishing to renew their membership can bundle their Holiday Party Ticket and 2017 SABA-GA Membership for $60. Tickets may be purchased before December 1, 2016 for $25 for current SABA-GA Members and $30 for non SABA-GA Members. After December 1, tickets will be available for $30 for current SABA-GA Members and $35 for non SABA-GA Members. Come mingle as we celebrate the holidays and ring in the new year with your fellow SABA-GA attorneys and enjoy complimentary beer, wine, and heavy appetizers.

The South Asian Bar Association and the Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association cordially invites SABA-GA members to a Reception in honor of our Gwinnett County Asian American Judges, the Hon. DJ Jeyaram and the Hon. Ruth Rocker McMullin. The Reception will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the 1818 Club (6500 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth, GA 30097) and is co-hosted by the Gwinnett County Bar Association, the Korean American Bar Association of Georgia, and the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Georgia. Hors d'oeurves and bar beverages will be served. Join the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Georgia (VABA) and the South Asian Bar Association of Georgia (SABA) on the patio at The Luminary on November 10 to make new friends, mingle with old ones, and breathe a collective sigh of relief that the election is over! You'll also have the chance to hear from and donate to two local nonprofits we're proud to support: Raksha, Inc. and Athena's Warehouse, Inc.

$20 in advance.  $25 at the door.  Each ticket comes with one drink and light appetizers. 100% of proceeds from ticket sales will go to Raksha, Inc. and Athena's Warehouse, Inc.

Raksha, which means “protection” in several South Asian languages, is a Georgia-based nonprofit for the South Asian Community. Raksha’s mission is to promote a stronger and healthier South Asian community through confidential support services, education, and advocacy. 

Athena's Warehouse is a Georgia-based nonprofit dedicated to educating and empowering underserved high school girls in the Atlanta community, most of whom are minorities from immigrant families.  Through enrichment programs, advocacy initiatives, and positive female role models, Athena's equip girls with the tools and resources to become healthy, confident, and independent young women.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Citizenship Clinic - Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016 (2:00 PM)


Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta (AAAJ) is holding a free citizenship clinic on September 25, 2016 from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Lucky Shoals Community & Recreation Center in Norcross. AAAJ is looking for two volunteer attorneys to assist us with conducting attorney consultations and final review. Training will be provided before hand. The State Bar of Georgia Diversity Program presents its 2016 Fall CLE and Luncheon - Generational Diversity: Techniques and Strategies on Managing Diversity of Generations in the Workplace.
